Part of my role as Member of Parliament, and something residents may not be aware of, is being able to organise free ‘Inside UK Parliament’ guided tours for constituents.
At the start of the new school year, I wrote to schools across Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner, inviting children to enter my Christmas Card Competition, which is now in its third year.
As ever, oral parliamentary questions in Parliament offer MPs the opportunity to scrutinise Ministers and their departments but more importantly they allow MPs to champion local causes and businesses.
Local businesses are the foundations of the economy, and I am proud that there are so many thriving businesses and entrepreneurs in Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner. I am keen that the Government continues to listen to these businesses when deciding upon future policy.
As the country continues to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic, we must recognise the importance of the contribution small, and often family-run, businesses are making to this.
It is always a pleasure to visit West Lodge School in Pinner. On Monday morning, I was delighted to meet with children in Year 3 and 4 who had lots of interesting questions for me, particularly on the environment and what we can do as individuals to collectively make a positive change.
As constituents will know, Mayor Khan has implemented his plan to extend the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) across the entirety of Greater London including all areas of Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner.
We’re extremely disappointed that Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan has decided to expand the ULEZ charge to Harrow and Hillingdon. This is an inner London policy now being forced upon us in outer London and will cost people living in Hillingdon £12.50 per day unless they buy a new vehicle.
UK Parliament Week is an annual event. With the political landscape everchanging, it is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about what Parliament is, what it does and how to make an impact on the issues that matter the most.
Following an uncertain few months in Westminster, I was delighted by the appointment of Rishi Sunak as the new leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister last month.
